Qualifying Product Version |

Windows Vista Ultimate |
Windows 7 Ultimate |
Note: Different upgrade media will be required by platform and territory-specific versions. Additional Upgrade Path Restrictions: A language version of the qualifying Windows Vista product can only be upgraded to the same language version of the Windows 7 upgrade software. Also, the Windows Vista product can only be upgraded to the associated edition of Windows 7. As an example, Windows Vista Home Premium K edition can only be upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium K edition.
6. Why has Vista Home basic been left off of the eligible upgrade paths?
The major lesson learned from the last Windows Upgrade Program was: Keep the Program Simple. Thus, only Like-to-Like upgrades are supported under the Program. So Windows Home Basic is not in scope for this program as there is no "like" version of Windows 7 in mature markets. Additionally, not all Windows Home Basic PCs meet the Windows 7 Hardware requirements – where as all Logo-qualifying versions of Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Ultimate WILL meet the Windows 7 hardware requirements.
7. The upgrade requires an Optical Device (DVD) to perform the upgrade. Is there an alternative media to use since not all PCs come equipped with an ODD?
The DVD drive is a requirement for installation of program upgrade media but the DVD drive itself can be internal or external.
